Studly Dudley && Sarah Starstudmuffin |x Good boy.. I soothed the exciteable colt as we walked briskly to the training oval. Just turned two, Dudley was about to begin his first season of racing, and this morning we were giving him a final workout before his first race. I urged him to trot to warm his muscles for the work ahead. He bobbed his head as though he was agreeing with me, and immediately made the transition to the two time pace. Instead of staying in trot, Dudley continued on into canter, bucking a little in excitement.
I rolled my eyes at his antics, and brought him back down to trot. You're going to have to grow up sooner or later, Dudley. I told him firmly. He was certainly a bit of a handful, but Studly Dudley was intelligent and I could tell he had it in him to go to the top one day. We turned through figure eights and circles, the usual warm up ritual, at both trot and canter before beginning to gallop.
Since it was just two days before his race, he wouldn't be doing any hard work today, and would have the entire day off tomorrow. I urged him to gallop now, careful to hold him in firmly so he wouldn't take off. Easy now, Stud.. I soothed. We went
