SPRING CUP WORKOUT
Good boy, I praised the colt as I guided him through his warmup exercises. Justin was always exceptionally well behaved for a racehorse, but today he really took the cake - he was just amazing. He had not stepped one toe out of line yet this morning; he was just perfect. I squeezed my heels lightly to his sides, urging him to canter. The light bay did not hesitate in the slightest, instantly making the change in gait. His canter was feather light and well balanced; a beautiful canter for one so young.
Justin had placed second, less than a half length behind the winner, in his first start, the Watch Out For Us Stakes, then won his second start, the Greasy Giraffe Stakes, impressively by a length. He had great breeding, too - two grade one parents that were both owned by the prestigious Akita Rose Stables.
