I had a reputation for being able to get the best out of the wild ones. I guessed that was why Sarah thought I'd be the best rider for Mack, as I'd decided to nickname him. I was on his back right now, and he was playing up, but it was nothing compared to what Vinny was like, and what Fury had been like. Really, from what I'd deduced so far from his behaviours, Macho Man only misbehaved at all to impress the fillies. That was why we'd entered him in the upcoming Azalea Cup, in the colt's race. It was a very competitive race for the two year old turfers. Without a filly in the field, Mack wouldn't be tempted to chase her and would instead have his mind on the race. We'd decided that Mack would run in the front runner position in races where there were fillies, and behind the leaders if it were just colts. The colt was capable of running well in both, if he could keep his mind on the race.
I nudged my heels to his sides now, urging the dark bay to trot. He burst willingly into the two beat pace, seemingly happy to oblige to my commands without so much as a whiff of a female horse. [/blockquote]
