Training varies according to the age of the horse and it's next race. This is just a guide.
SUNDAY
Rest Day
- Today all racehorses get the day off work to relax and rejuvinate in the pasture.
MONDAY
Slow Work
- Today all racehorses get worked at the slower paces (walk, trot, and canter) over a certain distance (according to their preferences) just to ease them back to work after rest day.
TUESDAY
Gallop
- Training is begun with warmup exercises including circles and figure eights at walk, trot and canter. Then horse is guided to the inside of the track and galloped a few furlongs (according to it's preferences). Then come the warm down exercises, which are the same as the warm up but basically from fast to slow pace.
WEDNESDAY
Medimum Work
- Sometimes this work will be taken out on the trails, but otherwise is much the same as slow work. it just goes for a bit longer, and short periods of galloping are involved.
THURSDAY
Breezing
- We work the horses as though it is a race, often in pairs. Starting with warming up in the regular circles and figure eight exercises, then cantering to the starting gates, then obviously galloping the horses according to their preferences. Then warm down.
FRIDAY
Slow/Minimal Work
- As friday is the day before race day, slow or minimal work only is carried out. Often only a trail ride, or time on the motorised horse walker (without a rider) takes place. Also pool work is an option.
SATURDAY
Race Day
- Today is basically our designated race day. If the horse isn't entered in a race for today, work just as physically demanding as a race (fast gallops against competition according to horse's preferences) takes place. This includes speed work, distance work, mock races etc.
