I'd always known in my heart how things would turn out with Silver Stalker and Glory. As rider of both of the talented three year old dirt racehorses, there was bound to be a time when things would clash far too much. Silver Stalker's performance was declining, her desire to win almost no longer there. Someone who didn't know her as well as I did might think she had reached an early peak - but i knew very well that this was not the case. The problem was that I had grown apart from the filly, and closer to Bank On Glory. The solution.. well, I planned to ask Marissa to ride her instead. Marissa and I were as close as sisters could possibly be - living together, sharing a job and being best friends. We were both excellent riders, and had both produced Hall Of Fame inductees and Horses of The Year. There was no doubt in my mind that my younger sister would take Sylvia to the top.
Silver Stalker, whom I was currently grooming, was aware of my regret. She peered curiously at me, bumping my hip with her muzzle as I brushed her sleek black coat. Sorry, lady. I murmurred, brushing her forelock away from her dark, shining eyes. I had to tear my gaze away then, before I started to cry. It was like giving up a part of myself, but it was the right thing to do. I heard Marissa coming down into the stables, humming away. She went straight to Vindictive Fury's stall, greeting the vicious filly with a scratch behind the ears and snapping her arm back when the horse aimed her teeth at it.
I let out a little sigh. Vinny had looked more promising than Bank On Greatness had earlier this year, but now it was looking like she would be layed off until next year. Too wild for even Marissa to handle right now. Taking a deep breath, I called out to my sister to come.
