Sarah Star riding Bank On Greatness
Well, his first start at definitely been a little disappointing. I'd worked the colt gradually up to his first race, thinking he'd win it miles the whole time. Silly of me to expect so much, even with his bloodlines. The full brother of Triple Crown Champion and Breeder's Cup Classic winner Impressario had come fourth.
It was five days later. The colt had been entered in another race not this weekend, but next, and he'd had the past few days off work. Today, we'd be taking a trot along the toughest galloping lane to build up his power and endurance. With my fiance James' help, I vaulted onto the grey colt's back and urged him to walk. James mounted up on The Natural, our best natured stallion, who would be accompanying us for the ride.
We walked down the dirt lane in the direction of the training oval in silence, then turned off and followed a new trail to the galloping lanes. The lanes went through the forest, up hills, down hills, through deep sand and up more hills. The Natural was an experienced ex racehorse and breezing partner. He was perfect for helping educate the youngsters, and was also great with the older ones too.
