Wow. The filly was breathtaking. The way she moved drew gazes from all, even the other horses. She was slightly skittish, evidently nervous. Even in the dim barn light, her grey coat shone brightly, and I could see her muscles rippling powerfully beneath it. Sarah lead her to her stall, her eyes focused on the filly rather than where she was going, and consequently walked right into the frame. Lawliet's Girl started, and then quickly relaxed. Sarah raised her eyes to meet mine, and they were shining brightly, meaning she was very happy with this one already.
Hardly able to tear my eyes away from the thoroughbred, they snapped back to her. Flyer's sister... daughter of Merry Bay King and Bluebell Sonnet. Very, very good turf bloodlines. Any turf mare Merry Bay King was cross with equaled a turf king or queen. Simply A Flyer was the most recent queen - Lawliet's Girl would be next.
The crowd dispersed slowly as they returned to their duties, until only Sarah, James and I remained. So.. I began, wondering how to put it. who's going to be her rider? I asked, in a would-be casual tone. Sarah looked at me sharply. Not you. You have Justin. I know.. but she's Flyer's sister.. I said in a slightly whiny voice. I wanted Lawliet's Girl. Forget it, Marissa. Unless she hates me on her back, I'm her rider. That was the final word. Her tone suggested I leave. I glared. She glared back. James looked between us helplessly. I turned and slowly walked away, heading for Flyer's stall. At least I had her..
